Mission of the Visual Art League of Lewisville
The mission of the Visual Art League is to promote the visual arts through education and exhibitions for the enrichment of the individual and the community. VAL is very involved in serving and enriching our community through art-viewing experiences in a local setting, supporting the schools in their visual arts programs, and collaborating with other non-profit groups to serve the community. VAL organizes multiple member shows each year, provides local artists the opportunity to showcase their work, produces visiting artist lectures, networking groups, educational art activities such as demonstrations, and hands-on projects, and participates in other community events.
Organized in 1978 and for many years housed in gallery space in a shopping center, in 2011 VAL relocated its gallery and education programming to the Lewisville Grand Theater, where they produce several gallery exhibits throughout the year and continue to provide arts education and community enrichment in the arts.
In addition to the visual arts, VAL members also participate in performance activities by hosting the Acoustic Friday Jams at The Grand each Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. This weekly jam session and song circle is open to musicians of all levels who play any kind of acoustic instrument. The event is open to the public and there is no admission charge.
