Launched in the Fall of 2018, Lewisville Grand Theater’s Chalk Art Walls reside above the theater’s Main Street and Church Street interior entrances and feature original chalk works by local artists. The initiative aims to introduce more visual art works to The Grand by reimagining these 12’ by 4’ spaces throughout the year with new designs. The walls are available for viewing Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. or during public events at The Grand.

Artists interested in participating in The Grand’s Chalk Wall program may contact Denise Helbing at dhelbing@cityoflewisville.com.

Kung Fu by Cindy Mears

Kung Fu, created by Cindy Mears, was installed on The Grand's Main Street Chalk Wall in April 2024.

Artist Statement:

"Even in the insect world, size matters. This newly hatched Praying Mantis was discovered in a David Attenborough documentary and was said to use martial arts as a defense mechanism in order to stay alive when being chased by predators. He fooled the hungry jumping spider, however, he was devoured alive by a much larger mantis seconds later. His short life ended tragically yet he is immortalized in this 12-ft wide by 4-ft high soft pastel installation at the Grand Theater."

Thank You for the Magic by Xander Posey

Thank You for the Magic, created by Xander Posey, was installed on The Grand's Church Street Chalk Wall in April 2024.

Artist Statement:

"Growing up, magical girl shows like Sailor Moon helped me to hold onto hope under circumstances that felt hopeless.

As an adult, I am still able to find a sense of comfort in that. When I was encouraged to make a piece in this style I knew I wanted to pay an homage to that feeling, a small but grateful thank you to the types of shows with themes that helped me persist and believe in a brighter tomorrow."
