Join the Visual Art League of Lewisville for its monthly general meeting at Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street.
Ever wonder how art can lead to something bigger, something unexpected? Join us as Ruthie Partin, sculptor, tattoo artist and owner of Avant Garde Tattoo, shares her story of how a pivotal moment connected her to a bigger art community.
When not metalsmithing her latest sculpture or running her successful tattoo business in Gainesville, she is pursuing her Master of Arts Management degree at the University of Oklahoma. Over the years, Ruthie has contributed to non-profit art organizations including the GAVA (Gainesville Area Visual Arts), public art installations, and assisted with large-scale sculpture initiatives. She and her husband's dedication to enhancing public spaces not only elevates the environment but also fosters cultural and community development, creating a strong sense of connectedness.
If you’ve ever wondered about the fabrication process or have wanted to dabble in sculpture making but don’t know where to begin – you’ll gain valuable information from this art talk. Plus, Ruthie will share insight into arts management and her goals for the future. Her journey will inspire you and may also help you on your own artistic path.
VAL members are encouraged to bring art for the Artist of the Month. All attendees will have a chance to vote for their favorite artwork. Two awards will be given. (Artists who have already won First Place for Artist of the Month this year are automatically entered into the Artist of the Year opportunity. We welcome you to vote but no art submission will be accepted)
The Grand is Lewisville's home for the arts. It presents a variety of regional and national touring performers, art exhibits, and classes, while also giving the many arts groups in the greater Lewisville area a facility to perform and display their works. Its multiple performance spaces play host to a variety of events, including live music, theater, dance performances, comedy shows, and more. The center features the 294-seat Huffines Performance Hall, black box theater, recital hall, art gallery, and courtyard.
To reach The Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. The Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center. Please be aware that there is heavy road construction at the Main Street interchange with 35E that will cause delays.
